Gus Poyet. No glamour coach but will it work?

Gus Poyet. No glamour coach but will it work?

Seemingly Gus Poyet will be unveiled as the Ethniki Omada's latest head coach and the not many people are celebrating this appointment, but stopping short of wanting JVS back.

The list of candidates floating out through the media wasn't impressive but with the rumoured 500K annual salary being offered, the reality is we were never going to get anyone of any type of stature in the game today. I'm sure any level headed individual understood that.

Anyways he's here, so what next?

What the Ethniki Omada needs is that new coach bounce. We need goals and wins. Enterprising football. I came across a stat of his where he has coached close to 400 games and has a goal difference of +91. In his last job at Universidad Catolica he had won 13 drawn 5 and lost 13 for a goal difference of +1. But interestingly in the 31 games the played under him they scored 42 times (and conceded 41)

Looking at that kind of warms me up a bit because watching the Ethniki Omada attack is like watching paint dry. its dull and boring.

Plus we've always had great defensive players so getting the attack right was the biggest issue that was never addressed by the previous administration.

Will we see us winning matches 3-2? or losing matches 3-2? I hope so.. more for the former of course. Although most fans would accept a loss if they saw the national team go for it and play football the way it should be.

But the main issue that MUST be addressed is we need to qualify for a major tournament. Going close to 10 years plus and getting nothing is soul destroying for all the Ethniki Omada fans out there. This must be addressed.

Another issue that must be addressed is the elephant in the room and that was the group of players who were alienated from the Ethniki Omada by the previous coach. Whatever we think of the players is irrelevant. Whether they are chosen or not, its important that Poyet can get everyone on board and close this ugly chapter once and for all.

First stop Nations League.

I think its fair to say this is a must win group. The time for rebuilding a squad is over and its now about results. I hope they told him that in the interview. Lets see what Gus can do.
