TV Deal Failures, Will Clubs Ever Learn?

TV Deal Failures, Will Clubs Ever Learn?

By George

New year, same deal.

The league has been postponed due to certain clubs inability to get themselves a suitable TV deal.

So whos at fault? The EPO? The TV companies? The clubs?

Whilst a lot of the blame has been put on the EPO and the TV companies. To a certain point that is the case, but the reality is a lot of the clubs aren't helping their cause either.

A quick scan through social media accounts and we see clubs that have very little to no social media presence.

In 2021 where social media rules over every other type of media in regards to building up a team for their fans, hyping up the league, talking about the club, its history and the hero's of yesteryear all the while whilst keeping communication open with its fans so they feel part of the club, very little SLGR clubs understand this basic principle.

Ionikos FC who captured a lot of fans hearts with their promotion to the top last used Twitter on the the 1st of July to announce a few player signings. Just a photo and that's it.

No interview with the player talking up the club, no quotes how the player is keen to establish the club in the top division, no nothing. Just. A. Photo. Their Instagram page isn't much better.

Volos aren't far behind. For a so called new and progressive club whos bio reads "Μια Ομαδα Μία Πόλη" "One Team One City" they last tweeted about a player injury and before that put out some stupid statement regarding the leagues postponement.

Every club owner thinks that they can put out these Marinakisesque statements yet they don't understand that very few if any people care what they say about the matter or have even clicked the link. They want to see content from the team, the inner workings of the club, training sessions, some player banter.

As for Volos TV? Don't make me laugh.. See for yourself

PAS Giannina and OFI put out okay content out and it is well received but its just not enough.

Its pointless going through all the club social media accounts but one thing is certain that is a club doesn't market itself out there to the masses why would a TV company think they hold any value?

I can go on and on but if you follow a club outside the Big 4 who seem to understand how social media works in a positive fashion, then see for yourselves, and think...

Is this okay? Am I happy with it? If not, make noise. Tweet the club, Email the club, Send a DM on Instagram or Facebook.

These clubs make things hard for themselves and need to look in the mirror and realise very quickly that Social Media is the one platform that can help build up their presence.

Nobodies have become stars and are making hundreds if not thousands from social media these days.

I'm certain there are plenty of university graduates with media degrees who would chomp at the bit to be a clubs social media manager.

A young person who understands the value of it.

Surely a new progressive club or an old historic club can see the value in this?

So again. If you aren't happy make the noise and let the clubs know this is unacceptable otherwise these situations the league finds itself in every 12 months will continue.

Sad thing is I shudder to think what will become of SL2 and the Gamma Ethniki if the SLGR cant get this right.
