Player Ratings - Olympiakos vs Wolves

A Battling Performance Amidst Peculiar Circumstances

By Gavin Waymire,

Following the Kokkinoi’s creditable 1-1 home draw with Wolves, lets take a look at how each player performed individually.

Goalkeeper, José Sá- 7/10: A solid performance from Olympiakos’ reliable Portuguese stopper, he did well throughout, and was unlucky not to keep the clean sheet, conceding from a deflection.

Right Back, Omar Elabdellaoui- 6/10: Solid throughout, although he did look troubled by Ruben Vinagre from time to time. Overall decent performance.

Center Back, Ruben Semedo- 3/10: For as talented as he is, he is beginning to show that like Yassine Meriah, he has a few shocking mistakes in him. He looked superb while he was on the pitch, but his sending off after only 30’ minutes put the Reds on a dangerous lurch. Luckily for him, his teammates found a way. Cissé should be starting over Semedo going forward.

Center Back, Ousseynou Ba- 8/10: The Senegalese mountain has been incredible in recent weeks, and his partnership with countryman Pape Abou Cissé looks as good as any other defensive pairing out there. Didn’t step a foot wrong tonight.

Left Back, Kostas Tsimikas- 7/10: Another bright performance from the budding Greek star on both ends of the pitch. His stock continues to rise.

Center Midfielder, Guilherme- 8/10: Looked great covering the back four and was comfortable in possession. Was vital in securing the lions share of possession for the Erythrolefkoi, and did fantastic work to set El-Arabi up to score the goal that keeps the tie firmly balanced. He created the most chances out of any other player for either side (3).

Center Midfielder, Andreas Bouchalakis- 6/10: Wasn’t particularly poor, but it wasn’t his best night. His deflection on the free kick put the ball past José Sá. Looked decent in possession.

Center Midfielder, Mady Camara- 7/10: Showed great energy pushing forward, tried to get more involved in the attack after Masouras had to be replaced by Cissé due to Semedo’s red card. A solid performance.

Right Winger, Giorgios Masouras- 6/10: Only got to play 34’ minutes, making way for Semedo’s replacement after the sending off. Didn’t get the chance to assert himself on proceedings.

Center Forward, Youssef El-Arabi- 7/10: Scored the all important goal, however he really has Guilherme to thank for setting him up with an easy tap in. Looked good overall, made way for Fortounis in the 73’ minute.

Left Winger, Mathieu Valbuena- 7/10: Constantly involved all down the left, did a lot of tracking back after Semedo was sent off. Was replaced on 84’ minutes by Bruno Gaspar.

Substitutes

Pape Abou Cissé- 7/10: Did great filling in for Semedo, his aerial presence was vital in keeping the Wolves attack quiet. He well and truly seems to be back to his best after a rough first half of the campaign on the sidelines.

Kostas Fortounis- 6/10: Tried his best but couldn’t really get involved, good to see him playing once again though.

Bruno Gaspar- N/A: Came on 6 minutes from the end of regulation, didn’t have much time to make any meaningful contribution.

Coach

Pedro Martins- 8/10: Once again, his side looked well organized and confident. Even after the sending off, Wolves never really got a grip on things as Olympiakos dictated the pace of the game. Even a man down, his side looked much better than their opponents. Another tactical masterclass from Martins.
