Given the new format of the League and the uncertainty some are experiencing, over how the Champion will be Crowned and how clubs will be relegated. Here is a quick guide on how it is supposed to all play out.
With Super League 1 now reduced to a 14-team competition, everybody will play each other twice, in a conventional 26-round competition.
Seeing as we have now completed 24 rounds, there will be 2 more full rounds before the playoffs commence.
Firstly:
Teams who finished 1st through 6th after the 26 competition rounds, will compete in playoffs to determine the League Champion for season 2019/20 and to decide the European places for next season.
Each team will play the other twice, in what is essentially a 10-round mini-league.
Secondly:
Playoffs will not only be confined to the top-6. The teams which finished 7th through 14th, will have their own playoffs to decide who is relegated.
In this playoff system, the 8 teams will all play each other once, in a 7-round mini-league. Given the odd number of matches, the higher ranked clubs will have the advantage of 4 matches at home and only 3 matches away.
After these 7 matches, the team which finishes 14th ie. bottom, will be relegated to Super League 2 for season 2020/21.
The team which finishes 13th, ie. 2nd from bottom, will face the team which finished 2nd during the Super League 2 season, in a 2-legged playoff for the final spot in Super League 1 for season 2020/21.
