Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

John van't Schip. 2 games in.

A loss to Finland and a draw with Liechtenstein where the latter scored their first goal in god knows how long. look on social media and laugh (or cry) at the many tweets people are putting up mocking the Ethniki Omada. Greek Tragedy and all that jazz.

I kept saying to people that I speak to especially non Greeks who say, you've got a great team, little do you know that they either have an over inflated ego or they are in bed with people high up who prolong their career. I would dare say van't Schip fell into that category thinking, "there's some great players in this squad who play for big clubs in Europe, this looks like an easy assignment" lol

I'm not blaming the coach here. Whilst naïve of him to think he can get something out of certain mercenaries his appointment this late in the qualifiers meant he didn't have much time to delve into it so I guess he thought, he will see things for himself.

And you can bet your whole life savings he saw it.

If we thought we had hit rock bottom with Ranieri, Makarian, Skibbe or Anastasiadis then think again. This is rock bottom, and maybe just maybe we've all been wrong in blaming the coaches for everything that has gone wrong. Sure they all need to take as much blame for this mess but like Albert Einstein was famously quoted

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

We cant qualify for this upcoming European tournament and clearly there is a core group of players who need to move on regardless of age or status in the game.

John van't Schip and Aron Winter are Ajax guys, they have come through the famed youth system so they know what is expected from young players. and luckily we are in a good position with many great young players so the future can be bright.. it can be anything.

Now is the time to permanently retire a large percentage of this current squad and implement a youth policy, a generational change that they will be able to mould in their style.

Its either that, or in 12 months time they will be unemployed and we will be wondering who can steady this sinking ship.
