Mykonos FC - The fall of our Ethniki

Angelos Anasatasiadis has apparently been sacked. It only took half of summer for the inevitable to happen but I'm sure everyone was looking forward to their summer break as you know... its really important you don't miss out on that.

Will a new coach make a difference?

Anyone that follows me on twitter would see I am very critical of the senior players in the team, most notably Papastathopoulos and Manolas. I'm sick of seeing Sokratis post soppy apologies to Arsenal fans when his team loses. I'm sick of seeing videos of Manolas tell us all how much he loves Olympiakara Olympiakara (and I'm a fan of the club)

Yet no love to us fans, no apology to us Greeks? Nah, stuff that.

Both stay silent and run to Grammenos saying its all the coaches fault. Yep, that old chestnut. The easiest of easy cop outs. Its June, the sun is shining, get me the hell out of here, but don't blame me, its all the coaches fault we are bad.

We are a shamble, and it's embarrassing.

It'll take a long time, tough decisions and clear vision for this to be rectified, but my main concern moving forward is the players...

The rise of Mykonos FC!

Players pulling out injured prior to these matches only to be posting photos of themselves sunning it up in Mykonos.

The dust hadn't even settled from the shambles and we see a plethora of players holidaying in Mykonos or the Greek islands, living it up all the while looking like they don't care. Whether they do or don't, many fans have had enough.

Now I'm not saying these guys don't deserve to go on holiday or do as they please, far from it, they can do whatever they want but the classless display of arrogance after the pathetic display on the field does not bode well with the common person who by far and large pays their hard earned money to watch these guys play.

We lost, that's not gonna change.. but,

Is it that hard for them to put their phone away when they are on holiday? Apparently so.

The first thing our new coach should do is tell any player regardless of who they are or their status in the game that if they aren't prepared to follow directions and be leaders on and off the pitch, then best retire and move on.

Simple things,

  • You don't have to like the coach but you must respect his decisions.
  • Don't tell us fans that if The Ethniki Omada doesn't qualify for the next major tournament that you will probably retire.
  • Don't make a scene saying its either him or me after a loss because the fans don't need to see that crap.
  • No one is bigger than the jersey.

We have a great bunch of young guys coming through and the last thing we need is for them to get entrenched in the disharmony that has eaten our senior squad.

And for Christ's sake. Put your phone away.
