The Opposition Danger-Men. Slovenia and Kosovo

The Opposition Danger-Men. Slovenia and Kosovo By Christian Leggas We are now less than a week away from seeing our beloved Ethniki take to the pitch competitively once again in the second season of the UEFA Nations League.  Our opponents this time are promotion winners from last season’s League D in Moldova and Kosovo as well as Slovenia. Now, you might be thinking, who are the blokes that are going to cause John van’t Schip and his men all sorts of headaches? Well, if that’s going through your mind, let me take you through two players from these two nations, who Greece must put time into stopping. Kosovo: Arbër Zeneli  Four of his seven international goals occurred in the inaugural Nations League season, all of which came from playing in the left-wing position. Potentially, Ethniki Squad-Debutant Lazaros Rota and the experienced Michalis Bakakis will have their hands full when opposed to him, as they’re both right-backs.  So, they’ll both have to be on their A-game to stop Zeneli sho

Cyprus First Division 2020/21 Season Prediction

Cyprus First Division 2020/21 Season Prediction By Steve Kountourou, As COVID 19 disrupted football all over the globe, Cyprus was one of the unlucky countries that decided to abandon the 19/20 season. The Cyprus FA decided there would be no relegation and no Champion, European places for each side, naturally, were given to the sides in the positions they finished up in when the league was initially grounded to a halt. The Cyprus FA have, however, expanded the league from 12 to 14 teams with Ermis Aradippou and Karmiotissa promoted from the second tier. So this means that once the league split in two, both the Championship and Relegation Rounds will still have six teams apiece while 13th and 14th are automatically relegated This makes the new 2020/21 season all the more interesting. Not only for the fight for the title and the European places, but for the sides that have been given a second shot at staying up in the first tier, when they maybe should have been relegated under normal ci

PAOK Besiktas - Match Preview

PAOK Besiktas Match Preview By Alain Anastasakis In these troubled times, affected by COVID and geopolitical situations, its always nice to focus on football for a change. PAOK will face Besiktas for the Champions League preliminary round at Toumba on Tuesday. A big challenge that will require a strong performance from Thessaloniki's club. PAOK president Savvidis recent statement, saying that the club will play "for the who of Greece", will put more pressure on the club.   After finishing second during the playoffs following a crazy season, PAOK goes again to try to qualify for the Champions League group stage. Due to Coronavirus, the club chose to have a smooth pre-season, with only 2 friendly games against local clubs. Some good things were seen but insufficient to really judge the team's level, or calm down all of last season's doubts, when the team, capable of the best and the worst, seemed to count too

PAS Giannina – Welcome Back to the Super League

PAS Giannina – Welcome Back to the Super League By Michael Vissini Officially announced by the Super League, PAS Giannina have returned to the top flight after one year absent. The Epirotes finished in first place in the Super League 2 with 15 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss on 49 pointsahead of Apollon Smyrni by 7 points after 20 rounds though the league did not continue and was suspended. Recently, on August 19th, it was confirmed by the Super League in a board of directors meeting to register PAS Giannina for the 20/21 season and relegate Panionios to the Super League 2. This news also puts an end to restructuring the Super League and will remain with 14 teams (thank God). Certainly, PAS Giannina were the favourites to rise up again to the Super League with their squad more superior than the other 11 teams in the Super league 2. Lefteris Choutesiotis was crucial for the Epirotes between the sticks, while Apostolos Skondras and Evangelos Pantelakis composed the defence with Michalis Boukouv

SuperLeague 19/20 Team Of The Season

SuperLeague Greece 19/20 Team of the season As the 2020/21 season comes ever closer, there is still time to take a couple last looks at the previous Superleague Greece season. This time it is a look at the best of the best in 2019/20, the Team of the Season. Despite Olympiakos being crowned champions and the stand outside in the domestic league, with plenty of their players in the Thrylos deserving of a spot in the team of the season, there are plenty of other individuals from other sides that are deserving of a spot.  The formation I will be using is 4-2-3-1. Now, this Xi is completely my opinion and obviously there will be players that some may feel missed out. If there are any differing opinions for your GRSL team of the season I would love to hear them in the comments. We will also be posting polls, once this blog is out, so you can vote for who you think were the best players in each position this season. With all that being said, let's dive in.  Jose Sa Now I feel that goalke

G reek Super League 2020-2021 Top Five Predictions   By: Antonios Theodosis    The new season is quickly approaching with many fans excited about where their teams will finish. The top five teams are all in there with a shot at winning the league title so long as they are able to strengthen their squads. Some of them, like AEK, have their core group of players set while others, such as Panathinaikos and Olympiakos are looking at vast overhauls of their squads. It goes without saying that this coming season will prove to be one that will be exciting as there is not one team that stands out above the rest at this particular moment in time. With that said, here are my predictions of who will finish where in the top five of the Greek Super League in the 2020-2021 season.    First Place: AEK    I have chosen AEK for first place as out of the other four teams they seem to be the most complete. Massimo Carrera has really steadied the ship at AEK and his side played some very entertaining foot
