Effective Player Rating - Greece vs Cyprus Friendly

Effective Player Rating - Greece vs Cyprus Friendly

By Greg Gavalas

Greece had a good hit out against our friendly cousins at Rizoupoli. It was match that for the most part saw two different line ups in each half. The line up used in the first half was impressive on paper but more importantly impressive on the field.

The line up in the second half, for me epitomized where we struggle, much field possession but a poor final pass or finish and a nervous ending.

Needless to say, we saw many positives and areas the team/players and coach can work on for the near future.

The Effective player rating is a system used primarily in Italian football that I have used in various different publications before and the first for Hellas Football.

It’s based on players effective plays in attack or defense during a game.

A score or +4 is a good score +5 is exceptional to play just one half, and score 2 or more is good.

This is how the Ethniki players scored in the Cyprus game:

G Giakoumakis 90 mins - 3 points - Proved to be a good target man and opened his account for the Ethniki with a goal, further showing off his good form at the moment

C Mavrias 68 mins - 3 points - After a shaky start, the surprise pick of the squad held his own and put in some good passes, runs and defensive work.

K Fortounis 45 mins - 2.5 points - Great game by Fortounis who was on track go to +4 in this game. You can not put Bakasetas over Fortounis in the key matches coming up.

I Michailidis 90 mins - 2.5 points - Good confidence boosting game for the young PAOK defender who also put in some amazing long balls with great accuracy.

D Kourbelis 90 mins - 2.5 points - As always, very solid at CB, had an exceptional first half with great forward runs and passes, change in team dynamic saw him play deeper in the second half.

T Chatzigiovannis 90 mins - 2.25 points - Had a good first half with some good combinations. Plenty of running in the second half but his delivery or decision making was off.

C Tzolis 45 mins - 2 points - Great performance from Tzolis who true to form was able to open his Ethniki account. Put in a great effort and needs to feature more going forward. A good solution to the left side of midfield.

C Zeca 45 mins - 2 points - Cut out many Cypriot attacks and supported defense and attack like he always does.

K Tsimikas 45 mins - 2 points - As expected, fitted in just fine and was a constant threat in attack, good to see him back and playing well.

D Limnios 45 mins - 1.5 points - Had his usual strong half in the second half and was the best of the subs. If his crosses can be converted we can see off games.

C Lykogiannis 45 mins - 1.5 points - Second half sub and played well, looked for many nice 1-2 passes that many times were not delivered back to him.

V Barkas 90 mins - 1 point - Wasn’t really tested much and couldn’t do much with the goal scored.

A Bouchalakis 45 mins - 1 point - Had some poor moments and good moments, should have had an assist to Chatzigiovannis after a nice through ball on goal.

L Rota 22 mins - 0.75 points - Didn’t play for long but came on and did plenty of good runs and work in defence.

D Pelkas 45 mins - 0.5 points - As usual, didn’t really come with any final product for the Ethniki. Much energy but hardly amounts to anything.

A Bakasetas 45 mins - 0.5 points - Was somehow absent in one the best half’s of football we have seen from the Ethniki.

K Lambropoulos 45 mins 0.5 points - Despite the low score he did well, just didn’t get tested as much as the others in defense.
